Our flat
We have a flat in a new block of flats. It is a nine-storeyed building
in Gorky Street. In front of our building there is a little park. Children from
our block like to spend their time there.
Our flat is on the fifth floor. It is very comfortable and well planned. We
have all modern conveniences, such as central heating, electricity, gas, hot
and cold running water and a telephone. There is a lift in our building.
You can find three rooms in the flat: a living room and two bedrooms. There is
a kitchen, a bathroom, a hall and a balcony.
The largest room in our flat is the living room and we use it as a dining room
and a sitting room. In the middle of the room there stands a big table and six
chairs round it. Opposite the window there is a wall unit with lots of books,
and a TV-set. There are two comfortable armchairs and a small coffee table in
the right-hand corner. There is also a sofa and an electric fire in our living
room. The floor is covered with a thick carpet. The curtains on the windows
match the colour of the wallpaper. The room looks cosy. We like it best of all
because in the evenings we gather there to have tea, watch TV, talk and rest.
The bedrooms are also nice and cosy. My parents’ bedroom is larger than mine.
They have two beds there, a bedside table with an alarm clock and an electric
lamp on it, some chairs and a wardrobe. There is a lovely carpet on the floor
between the beds.
My room is the smallest room in our flat, but it is very cosy and light. There
is a bed, a wardrobe, a desk, an armchair and several bookshelves in my room. A
thick carpet lies on the floor. The walls in my room are light brown and there
are some big posters on them. I like my room very much, but from time to time I
change it round. Quite often I move the bed and change the posters on the wall.
Our kitchen is large and light. It is very well equipped: we’ve got a
refrigerator, a freezer, a microwave oven, a coffee maker and a toaster. We
haven’t got a dishwasher yet, because it is very expensive. But I’m sure we
shall buy one in the near future. Usually we have our meals in the kitchen.
When we have a party, we lay the big table in the living room.
The bathroom is next to the kitchen. We have hot and cold water in the tap. The
hall is quite small. There is only enough room for a hallstand. A mirror hangs
on the wall next to it. The telephone is on its little shelf beside the mirror.
We like our flat and keep it looking tidy and cosy.
